How a trade happens

  1. Watch

    The engine, written in Rust, follows the sequencer feed and keeps the live state of every pool on Robinhood Chain in memory.

  2. Find

    When the same asset trades at two different prices, it measures the gap after pool fees and gas.

  3. Simulate

    It replays the trade against the current state of the chain before anything is sent.

  4. Settle

    Our own Solidity contract buys and sells inside one transaction. If the numbers no longer add up, the transaction reverts: nothing is bought and nothing is sold.

Speed on a blockchain starts with where you read it from. We run our own node, so the engine reads every block directly instead of waiting on a third-party provider.

A short history of speed

  1. 1850

    Paul Julius Reuter uses carrier pigeons to fly stock prices between Aachen and Brussels, across a gap in the telegraph line.

  2. 1887

    Eadweard Muybridge photographs a pigeon in flight, one phase at a time.

  3. 2010

    A fibre-optic cable is laid in a nearly straight line from Chicago to New Jersey, to take milliseconds off every trade between the two markets.

  4. 2012

    Microwave towers overtake the cable. Signals travel faster through air than through glass.

  5. 2026

    Aura Model runs its own node on Robinhood Chain and settles each trade in a single atomic transaction.

What comes next

New networks, from their first day. We plan to bring the engine to more Arbitrum Orbit chains and to OP Stack chains, running close to each network in the region where it launches.
